Spring 2019 Print Article

You’ve got your card… NOW, WHAT?

1. How do I figure out what products I should use for my condition?

If your certifying physician did not put any restrictions on your medications, all options are available! The ways to consume cannabis include Dry Leaf—Available for vaporization. Quantities are 1 gram, 3.5 grams, and 7 grams. Concentrates—Available for vaporization. Quantities are 0.5 grams and 1 gram. Cartridges—Available for vaporization. Quantities are 0.5 grams and 1 gram. Tinctures—A concentrated form of medical marijuana that’s often applied sublingually (under the tongue), or can be taken orally. Quantities range from 4.5 ml to 30ml. Transdermal Patches—A small patch can deliver cannabis through the skin. It’s most often worn on the wrist, foot, or ankle. One dose can last up to 12 hours. Topical products—Salves, ointments, and lotions are all used for applying medical cannabis to localized areas of pain. Usually sold per patch. Capsules—Available for oral consumption. Range from 2 milligrams to 100 milligrams.

2. How do I choose the right strain for me?

What determines the effects of a “strain” is the terpene profile. Many have heard of the cannabinoids THC and CBD, but terpenes are a huge part of the chemical composition of cannabis, fruits, flowers, etc. There are over 150 terpenes in cannabis which all have measurable effects on your health and mood. If cannabis smells like lavender, for example, it contains a terpene called linalool, which is found within lavender and also within cannabis strains like OG18 or GrandDaddy Purple.

3. How can I save money on my medicine?

Do comparison shopping. Most dispensaries post their full menus online along with the prices. Subscribe to dispensary email newsletters — they often announce sales here. If you are a Veteran, ask about a discount. Many dispensaries offer up to 10 percent savings for Vets. If you still have questions, please contact us at (833) 366-7669 or visit medmarijuanasolutions.com to schedule a consultation with our cannabis specialist!
