The CBD to THC Ratio is Essential to Controlling Dosage
Some patients have a difficult time finding medical cannabis products that are dosed appropriately for them. After they leave the dispensary for the first time, they go home excited and expecting relief, only to find themselves “couch-locked,” not being able to move, after one inhalation from the recommended vape cartridge.
For a patient that is new to using medical cannabis as a treatment option, one may want to consider finding the right ratio of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC): Cannabidiol (CBD). THC is a molecule in cannabis that provides the psychoactivity, while also providing numerous medical benefits. CBD is a non-psychoactive molecule and downregulates THC indirectly. So, what does this mean?
When you look at many products in the dispensary, there will be a ratio on the front. Think of this ratio as a recipe telling you exactly how many parts of CBD there are to THC molecules. For instance, if the ratio is 1:1, that means that there are two parts total in the product, with 1 part being CBD, and the other part being THC. A 1:1 product will still generally provide a small amount of psychoactivity, however, when you start to see products that are 6:1, or 10:1, the odds of psychoactivity are significantly reduced. The overall message is this… the more CBD to THC, the less psychoactivity!
So how high is too high? That’s entirely up to you!
